Our trainees have the opportunity to work abroad during the second year of their training contract. They can choose between working in one of our own offices or going on secondment to one of the market – leading firms we regularly work with.
An international secondment is an excellent opportunity to experience working in a different environment and jurisdiction. We take care of all the practical arrangements, including flights, accommodation and work permits, and will continue to offer you support while you are away.
After qualification there are further opportunities to go on secondment either overseas or to clients.

I have already ticked off gorgeous beaches, a plethora of vineyards, mountains, forests, thermal springs and great lakes from my long list of 'must-sees'. New Zealand is certainly a country of great variety and I am enjoying exploring every corner!

The food in Barcelona is truly exceptional and the lengthy list of restaurants provided by previous trainees will certainly keep you busy for the six months.

Typical weekends consist of hikes, champagne brunches, dim sum, sunny days out on the firm’s junk boat or even quick trips to nearby Asian countries.

My six-month secondment to our London office was a fantastic culmination to my training contract and has undoubtedly helped prepare me for qualifying as a solicitor back in our Hong Kong office....

Above all, the highlight for me was the opportunity to embrace all things Spain - from its (still challenging) language to its friendly people, food, and, importantly for me, its footballing culture.

The American work ethic is second-to-none and the lawyers here work very hard.

Outside of work I have been gallery-hopping, Instagram-perfecting and eating my way through Paris.

Some of my favourite experiences to date include skiing in Niseko, watching a sumo tournament and soaking in a snowy outdoor onsen (hot spring) under the stars.

Beyond the famous landmarks, monuments, memorials and museums that embody the city’s impressive history and continued international significance, I wasn’t quite sure what to expect when I touched town in Washington...
