Slaughter and May advised Spotify on its acquisition of WhoSampled

Slaughter and May advised Spotify on its acquisition of WhoSampled, a community-built database founded in 2008 which enables music fans to trace samples back to original songs.

WhoSampled’s technology will be used to power Spotify’s new SongDNA feature, an interactive view that maps out connections between songs, showing collaborators, samples, and covers all in one place.

Slaughter and May corporate partner Andrew Jolly said, “We were delighted to support Spotify on the acquisition of WhoSampled, technology which plays a key role in the launch of Spotify’s new SongDNA feature.”

Slaughter and May co-head of Tech James Cook added, “This is a great example of our cross-firm Tech practice in action, as we brought together our Tech experts in M&A, Digital Regulation, Data, IP and Competition law amongst others to support Spotify in delivering the transaction.”
