Equipping our people to thrive
We understand that it is important to adapt to the needs and circumstances of our people enabling them and the firm to succeed. That is why we have developed new and flexible ways of working, whilst continuing to offer our clients service excellence and ensuring career development opportunities for our employees.
To support our lawyers in their roles, we made our Job Design pilot associate scheme of reduced working hours for reduced pay a permanent option from January 2024. This “switch on/switch off” model of annualised hours/term working and pre-agreed blocks of time out of the office spread across the year gives associates the opportunity to reduce their working hours to 0.9 or 0.8 FTE.
Additionally, we have introduced a working practices code for our fee earners to improve any unnecessary incursions people experience during their downtime with some simple principles to ensure a work life balance.

I signed up for the Job Design pilot to take some time out and travel. My manager and colleagues were really supportive of my decision and by taking a prolonged period of time off I was able to come back to work refreshed and motivated. It has been very useful to see how people can undertake their jobs in different ways. Those that have taken part in the Job Design pilot have told us that it has been helpful for them to balance certain periods of their lives when they are looking for a bit more flexibility.
