Pro bono support to leading UK food redistribution charities in a national merger
Slaughter and May has been supporting FareShare on a pro bono basis in connection with its merger with The Felix Project. FareShare and The Felix Project are two of the UK’s leading charities in surplus food redistribution, each with the joint mission of rescuing food waste and supporting people in need. The merger will bring together FareShare’s UK-wide network and The Felix Project’s London operations, creating a single organisation with greater reach and impact across the UK.
The Slaughter and May team advising on this project comprised Roland Turnill, Christian Boney, Natalie Goodman and Sinead Boden with support from the firm’s financing, employment, IP, tax, real estate, and competition teams, advising on all aspects of the merger.
Senior Partner Roland Turnill said, “The two charities have worked collaboratively for many years and the merger is aimed at rescuing more food and reaching more people. The firm is proud of its continued support of FareShare and a project such as this merger is an area where we can use our legal expertise to help increase positive social impact.”
Associate Natalie Goodman said, “This has been a hugely rewarding project, working closely with the charities and with expert input from across the firm and external counsel to facilitate the formation of this new, merged organisation that will be able to increase its reach in diverting food waste and supporting those in food poverty.”
Hogan Lovells has been assisting the Felix Project on a pro bono basis. Bates Wells & Braithwaite has been acting for FareShare and Stone King has been acting for The Felix Project, in relation to the charity law aspects of the merger.
