Slaughter and May named in Social Mobility Foundation Top Employer Index for eighth consecutive year
Slaughter and May has been ranked 11th in the Social Mobility Employer Index, an annual benchmarking tool for employers that are improving socio-economic diversity. This is the eighth consecutive year the firm has been named as a Top 75 Employer and represents the second highest position to date.
The Index highlights the top UK employers who are taking action to ensure they are open to and progressing talent from all backgrounds and is widely considered the authority on employer-led social mobility due to the rigorous assessment involved in participation.
The ranking recognises the impact of the work the firm has delivered over the past year to support students and professionals from lower socio-economic backgrounds. This includes our dedicated social mobility targets and action plan, which aim to increase the representation from 18% to 25% by 2033. Our Spring Forward work experience programme targeted at law students from lower socio-economic and/or ethnic minority backgrounds, and our reporting on the socio-economic pay gap were also recognised. In addition, the firm was commended for its work with clients and suppliers to raise awareness and take action on the challenges faced by individuals from lower socio-economic backgrounds.
Andrew Jolly, Partner at Slaughter and May, comments: “We are proud to be recognised once again in the Social Mobility Employer Index, reflecting our long-standing commitment to widening access to the legal profession and supporting progression for individuals from lower socio-economic backgrounds. Our focus remains on driving meaningful progress - within the firm, across the legal sector and beyond.”
