Slaughter and May is advising Meta on its appeal against the European Commission's WhatsApp interim measures decision

Slaughter and May is advising Meta on its appeal to the General Court of the European Union against the European Commission's interim measures decision concerning use of the WhatsApp Business API by AI assistants.

In June 2026, the Commission ordered Meta to provide AI assistants with free use of the WhatsApp for Business API pending a full Commission antitrust investigation. The decision was only the second time the Commission has exercised its interim measures power under current EU competition law. Meta filed its appeal at the General Court in August 2026.
