Slaughter and May is advising Nica Burns, CEO of Nimax Theatres, on her new theatre at Tottenham Court Road

Slaughter and May is advising Nica Burns, CEO of Nimax Theatres, on her new bespoke theatre at Soho Place (which Nimax will operate), a new development above the Tottenham Court Road Elizabeth Line and Underground station.  The in-the-round theatre will provide highly versatile performance space and, when it opens later this year, will be the first new-build theatre in London’s West End for 50 years.  It is called “@sohoplace”, which is the name of the new piazza adjoining Charing Cross Road.

Nica Burns, CEO and co-owner, Nimax Theatres: “I wanted to create a theatre which could add a different dimension to our vibrant West End landscape…I asked our greatest theatre creatives two questions: If we could build a new theatre in the heart of the West End, what would you like it to be? What additional facilities would be on your wish list? They dreamt of a flexible auditorium, perfect acoustics and audience / stage intimacy… the incredible team of engineers pulled off the greatest of structural feats, building over a major underground transport hub – a challenging place to build a theatre – achieving perfect acoustics and no vibrations”.
