Senior Counsel

Richard is a Senior Counsel in our Technology, Digital, Data and IP group. Richard’s practice involves advising on a variety of managed service, outsourcing and commercial contracts, often with a technology focus. Richard has particular expertise in the life sciences and telecoms sectors in that regard. Richard’s practice also involves advising clients on a broad range of intellectual property matters, covering both contentious and non-contentious issues.   

Highlights include advising:

  • African Union on all aspects of its program to procure COVID-19 vaccines, over and above the vaccines they secured through the COVAX Investments Limited facility and other programmes, including a deal with Johnson & Johnson for 220 million doses.
  • INEOS on its defence of a patent infringement claim by TotalSim Limited in the IPEC against its cycling team, the INEOS Grenadiers, in relation to its high-performance skinsuits.
  • Virgin Group on amending its Trade Mark Licence Agreement with Virgin Active in connection with Virgin Active’s restructuring.
  • Vodafone Group PLC on complex branding and critical long-term services agreements in connection with: (i) the merger of Vodafone Limited (and its subsidiaries) and Hutchison 3G UK Limited (and its subsidiaries) and (ii) the sale of its Spanish business to Zegona Communications PLC.
  • Vodafone Limited on the commercialisation of its passive tower infrastructure joint venture with O2 Teléfonica UK Limited, Cornerstone Telecommunications Infrastructure Limited, particularly in relation to the master services agreements entered into between the operators and Cornerstone in respect of that passive infrastructure.
