The General Data Protection Regulation: what financial institutions need to know

July 2016 | Client publication/article

The General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) marks a significant development in the field of EU data protection law and will have direct effect in Member States from May 2018. This briefing is part of a series of publications on the new regime and takes a look at its impact from the perspective of financial institutions. We explore some of the changes that may be required to both the handling and use of personal data by regulated firms and the steps that such firms should be taking to anticipate and, where necessary, adjust for the application of the GDPR.

This briefing is reproduced from Practical Law with the permission of the publishers.
