Julia is the firm’s General Counsel. She is a solicitor qualified in England and Wales and practised first as a corporate lawyer and then as a data protection specialist before joining the firm’s compliance department.
Her current role includes:
- Advising the firm on the full range of regulatory and other legal issues which affect it as a business, playing a key role in risk and reputation management more generally
- Being responsible for ensuring that the firm has appropriate systems and controls to comply in full with SRA requirements as well as to mitigate the risks associated with money laundering, sanctions, bribery and corruption and fraud
- Being the firm’s COLP (Compliance Officer for Legal Practice) advising the firm on all actual or potential SRA reporting issues
- Managing a department of 20 risk and compliance professionals.
Julia is co-author of The In-houser, the Slaughter and May publication which translates SRA rules for in-house lawyers and frequently speaks to clients on that topic. She is also a regular speaker on a range of compliance topics at industry events, including on money laundering and the challenges law firms face in adopting global ethical standards.
She is a member of the City of London Law Society’s Professional Rules and Regulations Committee and a liveryman of the City of London Solicitors’ Company.
