M&A Team of the Year - British Legal Awards 2011

Slaughter and May won this award for its work advising British Airways on its merger with Iberia.

Given the regulated nature of the airline business and the fact that it was a cross-border merger, the merger threw up a number of innovative and difficult features in relation to the corporate, capital markets, regulatory, tax and commercial law aspects of the transaction.

The merger of British Airways and Iberia created a new holding company, International Consolidated Airlines Group SA (IAG), which is one of the world’s largest airlines and Europe’s second largest carrier after Air France-KLM, with a market value at the time of the merger of £5.3 billion.
