Samantha is Head of Environment and Climate Change in our Environmental, Social and Governance practice. She is also a member of our Infrastructure and Energy practice and our Real Estate practice.
She advises on all areas of ESG and sustainability. This includes advising on governance around, and reporting on, climate and sustainability matters, the emergence of hard and soft law, the risks associated with ‘greenwashing’ and the role of transition plans in decarbonisation and wider sustainability objectives.
Samantha also provides specialist environmental, health and safety advice. This involves advice on carbon allowances and compliance with the EU ETS, permitting matters, decommissioning, environmental compliance, green leases, contamination and habitats considerations.
She regularly contributes to content released by the firm and was a part of the Governance & Sustainability section of the Horizon Scanning 2024 series where she spoke on ‘ESG in 2024’.
Highlights of her work include advising:
- Schroders plc on the acquisition of an initial 75% shareholding in Greencoat Capital, a specialist investment manager focussing on renewable energy infrastructure investing, including wind, solar, bioenergy and heat
- Hyphen Hydrogen Energy on its pioneering US$10 billion agreement with the Government of the Republic of Namibia to develop Sub-Saharan Africa’s largest green hydrogen project
- Johnson Matthey plc on the sale of its Advanced Glass Technologies
- Viridor Waste Management Limited on the disposal of its collections business and certain recycling assets to Biffa plc
- INEOS on numerous transactions, including the acquisition of BP’s global petrochemicals business
- Kohlberg Kravis Roberts & Co. L.P. on the acquisition of Viridor Limited, one of the UK's leading recycling and residual waste businesses, by one of its infrastructure funds
Samantha is ranked for Environment in Chambers UK, 2023 and recognised as a Rising Star for Environment in the Legal 500, 2023
She is a member of techUK’s Climate Council and often speaks at, and chairs panels at conferences, including as part of Slaughter and May’s involvement in the United Nations Global Compact.
