Legally Leaving: the Great Repeal Bill White Paper

The triggering of Article 50 by the UK on 20 March 2017 marked the start of the UK’s formal withdrawal process from the EU. Attention now turns to the practicalities of implementing Brexit from a legal perspective, firstly, the form and content of the Great Repeal Bill.

The Government has published a White Paper which describes the Bill’s scheme, but does not cover in detail how the more complex challenges of the separation process will be managed.

This briefing outlines the operation of the Great Repeal Bill as described in the White Paper, before turning to some of the legal challenges that are still to be addressed.
