Tim is a senior counsel in the financial regulation group at Slaughter and May. His practice incorporates transactional and non-transactional work for both financial and (traditionally) non-financial institutions.

Recent work has involved providing advice to UK, European and international clients on many elements of UK banking and securities regulation including in relation to capital requirements and transactional structuring, regulatory change projects (CRR 2, IFPR, MiFID II etc.) and the UK bank ring-fencing regime.

Recent highlights include advising:

  • HM Treasury on the establishment of a new UK Infrastructure Bank;
  • Standard Chartered on the establishment of an institutionally-focused cryptoasset exchange and brokerage platform (he also acted as the venture’s general counsel on secondment); and
  • White Mountains Insurance Group on its investment of fresh capital and acquisition of a majority interest in the Ark Insurance Group.

He has also advised a number of regulated and unregulated Fintech entities at various stages of development on a range of matters such as the scope of the UK regulatory perimeter, including when regulatory permission is required and how best to structure a group to ensure regulatory efficiency.
