Welcome from Andrew Balfour, Chairman, Africa Practice Group

We are delighted to invite you to the sixth Practical and Legal Exchange African Symposium, to be hosted at our offices in London, 8-11 November 2017.

For the past five years, representatives of Africa’s leading independent law firms have gathered at PLEASe to share legal, transactional and commercial expertise and experience. It is also an opportunity to discuss the growing needs of African companies and governments, and of international businesses in Africa, as well as discussing aspects of law firm management. The 2016 PLEASe Symposium, held in Kampala, Uganda, was a resounding success with representatives of 56 leading law firms and 19 African countries in attendance.

This year’s event will be hosted at our offices in London for the first time. A number of multinational corporations with business interests in Africa will also be in attendance to share their knowledge and perspective on working in Africa.

We are also delighted to welcome Attorney General Jeremy Wright QC MP to the Symposium. Jeremy has been the Attorney General of the UK since July 2014 and has been recently involved in representing the government in the Supreme Court during the Brexit challenge. Prior to becoming an MP in 2005, Jeremy had a career at the Bar specialising in criminal law.

We are very much looking forward to seeing you in November.
