Simon has undertaken a broad range of corporate and commercial work, including private and public acquisitions, joint ventures, corporate reconstructions, public equity offerings and financings.
His clients include leading banks, asset management companies, investment trusts and industrial and commercial companies, particularly in the mining, health care, transport, electronics and retail sectors. Geographically, he has experience in many parts of the world.
Recent transactions include advising:
- Aegon on its sale of Guardian Financial Services, the UK provider of life and pensions products for £275 million to Cinven
- Kesa Electricals plc on its EUR 455,000,000 multi-currency revolving credit facility
- British United Provident Association on the sale of its UK hospital group for £1.44 billion to Cinven
- Raymarine plc on the "pre-packaged" administration sale of its business operations to Flir Systems Inc.
- Santander UK Plc on a scheme of arrangement to substitute preference shares in Alliance & Leicester plc with preference shares in Santander UK plc
- Abbey National plc on the disposal of its life insurance business to Resolution
- Rutland Trust on its reconstruction and merger
- Tribune Trust on its merger with Edinburgh UK Tracker Trust
Earlier in his career, he contributed to a number of publications on mortgage securitisations in the UK. In recent years he has been the author of the UK chapter for the annual editions of the 'Mergers and Acquisitions' and 'Corporate Governance' volumes in the 'Getting the Deal Through' series. He is also the contributing editor of 'The Mergers and Acquisitions Review'.
Simon is also a trustee of MOVE Europe, a charity which helps the most severely disabled children, and the chairman of the Governing Body of Charterhouse School.
