Richard is Head of our Dispute Resolution group. He has a significant, high-value international commercial litigation and arbitration practice, with extensive experience of complex, multi-jurisdictional, corporate-threatening disputes.

Richard acts for major UK and global corporates and has particular experience of disputes involving Anglo-US legal issues. Specific areas of expertise include banking and international trade disputes, fraud and global asset recovery cases, major pensions disputes, and complex, high-profile insurance and reinsurance litigation. His practice also includes art law, media and entertainment work, particularly in relation to film and theatre.

Highlights include advising on:

  • a multi-jurisdictional £700m sovereign loan agreement dispute
  • a US$500m international arbitration concerning investment management, involving a hedge fund and feeder fund dispute
  • a substantial fraud claim involving asset tracing and recovery in Nigeria, Switzerland, Panama, the Cayman Islands and the US
  • a major pension scheme dispute involving the interpretation of a trust deed and members’ rights
  • a reinsurance coverage dispute arising out of asbestosis claims
  • title, provenance and sale by auction of a £15m art work

Richard is listed as a leading individual for Dispute Resolution in Chambers UK, 2012  and the current editions of Chambers Europe, and Chambers Global  (where he is also ranked as a regional expert for cases with a US focus). He is also named as a leading individual for Pensions Litigation in Chambers UK 2012. He is the Editor of, and a contributor to, The Dispute Resolution Review  (3rd Edition), an extensive comparative analysis of international jurisdictions, and a member of the Editorial Board of Bankers’ Law.

Richard is a member of the City of London Solicitors Company, a CEDR Accredited Mediator, and a member of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators. He is also a member of Professional Advisors to the International Art Market (PAIAM) and a member of our Partnership Board.
