Philip specialises in advising corporates, private equity sponsors and financial institutions on a wide range of financing transactions. His practice covers acquisition and leveraged financing, general corporate loans, real estate financing, capital markets transactions and restructuring and structured finance matters. More generally, Philip advises the treasury departments of a number of large multi-national corporations on their general financing needs.

Highlights include advising:

  • BHP Billiton on various financing transactions including on its US$45 billion financing for its offer for Potash Corporation of Saskatchewan Inc. and on its US$7.5 billion financing for its successful offer for Petrohawk Energy Corporation
  • Morgan Stanley Real Estate Funds on various financings and restructuring transactions in the UK and Germany including on the restructuring of Four Seasons Healthcare
  • Bank of America and Credit Suisse as arrangers on the £3.6 billion credit facilities to support PPL Corporation’s acquisition of Central Networks, the UK electricity distribution business
  • Premier Oil on various financing transactions including on its US$ 525 million credit facilities for the acquisition of Oilexco North Sea Limited (in administration) and its recent US$1 billion refinancing
  • Homeserve on various transactions including on its new revolving credit facility
  • Arsenal Football Club on various financing transactions including on the financing for Emirates Stadium and the Highbury Square development
