Philip specialises in advising corporates, private equity sponsors and financial institutions on a wide range of financing transactions. His practice covers acquisition and leveraged financing, general corporate loans, real estate financing, capital markets transactions and restructuring and structured finance matters. More generally, Philip advises the treasury departments of a number of large multi-national companies on their general financing needs.

Philip is named as a leading individual in Banking & Finance in Chambers UK, 2010  and the 2010 Edition of IFLR 1000’s Guide to the World’s Leading Financial Law Firms. He is co-author of the ACT Guide to the LMA Leveraged Loan Agreement.

Philip was resident in Singapore from 1998 to 2000.

His recent work includes advising:

  • Songbird Estates (the majority owner of Canary Wharf Group) on its recent restructuring including its £1.03 billion debt and equity raising
  • Morgan Stanley Real Estate Funds on various financings and restructuring transactions in the UK and Germany including on the restructuring of Four Seasons Healthcare
  • Akzo Nobel on various financing transactions including on its £9.2 billion financing for its acquisition of ICI and numerous recent bond issues
  • Premier Oil on various financing transactions including on its US$ 525 million credit facilities for the acquisition of Oilexco North Sea Limited (in administration)
  • Terra Firma on various financings and restructurings
  • Naspers Limited on various financing transactions including on its US$ 1.6 billion refinancing
  • CEMEX on the refinancing and restructuring of certain of its debt facilities
  • Arsenal Football Club on various financing transactions including on the financing for Emirates Stadium and the Highbury Square development
