George specialises in corporate recovery and insolvency matters and financing work. He is Head of our Corporate Recovery and Insolvency group.
He has acted domestically and internationally for many companies involved in debt restructuring and refinancing, as well as working for insolvency practitioners on several high profile UK insolvencies. From 2007 to 2010, he advised HM Treasury (the UK finance ministry) in relation to problems in the financial sector.
George has also been involved in a number of recent UK and foreign corporate matters and is currently advising the winding-up board and resolution committee of Glitnir Bank hf. (a major Icelandic bank which failed in 2008) on the international aspects of its winding-up.
Highlights include advising:
- HM Treasury on the consequences of the failures of Northern Rock, Bradford & Bingley, the Icelandic banks Kaupthing and Landsbanki and the Dunfermline Building Society
- the Ministry of Finance of the Republic of Greece in relation to the provision of loans to Greece by other EU Member States
- General Motors UK on matters connected with the Chapter 11 filing by General Motors Corporation
- Raymarine plc on its financial difficulties, subsequent administration and the pre-packaged sale of its business
- Uniq plc on a pension debt for equity exchange in order to free itself from unsustainable pension liabilites
