George specialises in financing, corporate recovery and insolvency work and is the Head of our Corporate Recovery and Insolvency group.

He has acted domestically and internationally for many companies involved in debt restructuring and refinancing as well as working for administrators and liquidators on several high profile UK insolvencies. Since September 2007, he has advised HM Treasury in relation to problems in the financial sector. These have included the consequences of the failures of:

  • Northern Rock
  • Bradford & Bingley
  • the Icelandic banks Kaupthing and Landsbanki
  • the Dunfermline Building Society

He advised the Ministry of Finance of the Republic of Greece in relation to the provision of loans of up to EUR 80 billion to Greece by other EU Member States in the Euro area.

George has also been involved in a number of recent UK and foreign corporate matters including advising:

  • UK companies in the General Motors group on matters connected with the Chapter 11 filing by General Motors Corporation
  • Raymarine plc on its financial difficulties and subsequent administration and the pre-packaged sale of its business
  • American Capital and a European member of the American Capital group on matters connected with the restructuring of its European debt facilities
George was resident in Hong Kong in 1984 and New York from 1987 to 1991. He is a member of the Council of INSOL Europe and is listed as a leading individual for 'Corporate Restructuring and Insolvency' in The Legal 500, 2009 ; for 'Banking & Finance' and 'Restructuring/Insolvency' in Chambers UK, 2010 ; and for 'Restructruing/Insolvency' in Chambers Europe, 2009.
