Efstathios has a broad-ranging international commercial litigation and arbitration practice with particular experience of London market and international insurance and reinsurance disputes. He has acted on a wide range of cases for policyholders, insurers and brokers, including in relation to policy coverage and interpretation, non-disclosure and misrepresentation, and brokers’ liability issues. Other areas of expertise include corporate restructuring and insolvency matters, and technology and outsourcing disputes.

Highlights include advising:

• Liverpool Football Club (LFC) in relation to a series of high-profile injunction applications in the English and Dallas courts which threatened LFC’s sale to New England Sports Ventures (NESV)
• Equitas/Resolute in its High Court proceedings regarding its pursuit of multiple, substantial, and complex reinsurance claims against its reinsurer, R&Q Reinsurance Company (UK) Limited. The claims arose out of historic LMX spiral losses flowing from the loss of British Airways and Kuwait Airlines planes during the First Gulf War and the Exxon Valdez oil spill. The ground-breaking judgment provided important clarification for the reinsurance sector in relation to claims which had been at a standstill for over a decade due to disputes and market uncertainty
• Willis in relation to two of the highest value High Court cases to emerge from the PA LMX spiral issues of the 1990s
