Deborah's practice covers the broad spectrum of commercial litigation. She acts on substantial and complex commercial disputes for a wide range of clients, including a number of international banks and financial institutions.
She is highly regarded for her banking litigation practice (where her clients include Deutsche Bank), and is regularly involved in complex corporate recovery and insolvency work. She also has extensive experience of investigations and inquiries involving the financial services sector, in particular multi-jurisdictional investigations involving a number of national regulators.
Highlights include advising:
- the Resolution Committee of Icelandic bank Glitnir in securing a worldwide freezing order against the assets of Glitnir’s former principal shareholder, Jon Asgeir Johannesson, and other contentious matters arising out of the insolvency, including possible claims against derivatives counterparties
- RWE Aktiengesellschaft, a leading European utility group, in its successful defence of a US$1.4 billion damages claim, subject to LCIA arbitration, brought by the Russian Sintez Group, owned by Senator Leonid Lebedev
- the Unilever pension fund on its widely-reported claim against Mercury Asset Management, the leading case on negligent fund management
- Ernst & Young LLP as administrators of Hellas Telecommunications (Luxembourg) II SCA in relation to one of the UK’s largest pre-pack administrations
- COLT Telecom in defending an attempt by a US hedge fund to put it into insolvency proceedings
- MyTravel in the litigation which compelled the bondholders to consent to the company’s restructuring
In Chambers UK, 2012 Deborah is named as a leading individual for Banking Litigation (for which she is ranked top) and for Dispute Resolution (for which she is also listed as a leading individual in the current editions of Chambers Europe and Chambers Global). Deborah is also ranked as a leading individual for Banking Litigation and Commercial Litigation in the current edition of The Legal 500 and is one of The Lawyer's Hot 100 for 2012.
Deborah is a member of the Commercial Court Committee and a Trustee of the Trust for London.
