David has a broad commercial real estate practice incorporating property development, the acquisition and disposal of investment property portfolios, the negotiation of commercial leases for both landlords and tenants, sale and leaseback transactions and structured financing. He has a wide range of experience in the area of flotations and public offerings and has been involved in the property aspects of a number of high profile corporate mergers and acquisitions.
His recent work includes advising:
- BUPA on the disposal of its hospitals business to Cinven for £1.44 billion
- Whitbread PLC on the disposal of the David Lloyd health club business to Versailles Bidco, a vehicle controlled by London & Regional Holdings and Bank of Scotland, for £925 million, and on the disposal of 239 freestanding pub restaurants to Mitchells & Butlers plc for £497 million
- Marks and Spencer on its contributions of £900 million of value to its UK defined benefit pension scheme via an interest in a property-backed partnership
- RWE AG on the real estate aspects of the disposal of Thames Water PLC to a consortium led by the European Infrastructure Funds of Macquarie Bank for £4.8 billion (an enterprise value of £8 billion)
- Punch Taverns in relation to a number of acquisitions, disposals and refinancings
- a consortium led by Morgan Stanley Real Estate Funds on the acquisition of Canary Wharf
- Yorkshire Forward in relation to the comprehensive mixed use redevelopment of Barnsley Town Centre
