CSET's actions include:

• summer schools - the CSET Summer School aims to promote wider access to the UK legal profession by encouraging university students from a diverse range of backgrounds to consider a career in law. The first school was held in July 2008 and its success - demonstrated by the overwhelmingly positive feedback from participating students and their universities - led to CSET doubling the number of places available at the 2009 Summer School. This increased capacity was made possible by growing support from the legal profession, with 20 leading City law firms, including Slaughter and May, getting involved in the initiative
• grants to university law departments - each member firm makes an annual donation based on the number of trainees they have and grants are then paid to support the teaching of core subjects required for a qualifying law degree. Since its inception, the CSET Law Faculty Grant has raised more than £8 million to help pay for additional teaching and support resources

Our support also extends beyond financial sponsorship: our HR team and trainee solicitors have assisted with the provision of summer school case studies and training sessions, and Sarah Lee, our Diversity Partner, is a member of CSET's Management Committee. Commenting on the value of the firm's involvement, Sarah said:
