We advise on all aspects of European competition law.

In particular, we handle notifications to the European Commission under the EU Merger Regulation and represent clients facing investigations and complaints under Articles 101 and 102 TFEU, as well as equivalent national laws. We also advise on the rules on State aid, as well as monitoring other EU developments and maintaining regular contact with Commission officials.

Situated at the heart of the European quarter, our Brussels office is co-located with five of our European 'Best Friends' firms with whom we work closely. Our relationships with specialist competition practices across Europe and globally mean that we are exceptionally well-placed to deal with cross-border cases and issues raised by the increased co-operation between competition authorities.

Our Brussels team comprises 13 specialist competition lawyers and works as an integral part of our Competition practice.

Their service is outstanding. Slaughter and May is one of the best competition law firms in the industry; they make you feel like you are their only client Chambers Global, 2016

Our Brussels team is led by three resident partners, John Boyce, Jordan Ellison and Anna Lyle-Smythe. In addition, Philippe Chappatte spends a portion of his time in Brussels.

Travelling by car:

From the Brussels Ring (RO) to the east of Brussels, take the E40 (Liège/Leuven/Brussels) towards Brussels, which takes you towards the city centre (Centre-Centrum). Take the exit "European Community" (Communautée Européenne - Europese Gemeenschap). You will pass through a tunnel which takes you straight on to Avenue de Cortenberg. Drive down to Schuman Square (Rond Point Schuman) and take the second exit (Rue de la Loi). Turn left at the sign for "Concert Noble" (Rue de la Science) - third side street along Rue de la Loi. Cross two streets - Rue Belliard and Rue Montoyer - to reach Square de Meeûs.

Travelling by plane:

From Brussels airport (Zaventem) a journey by taxi takes approximately 20 minutes and costs between EUR 30-45. The distance from the airport to the office is about 12km.

Travelling by train:

From the Brussels station "Gare du Midi-Zuidstation" (the terminal station for Eurostar and Thalys) a journey by taxi takes approximately 15-20 minutes and costs between EUR 15-20.

Alternatively, a Metro journey takes about 10 minutes. From the Brussels station "Gare du Midi-Zuidstation", take Metro line 2 in the direction of Simonis (Elisabeth) and exit at Trône/Troon. When you get off the metro, turn right and go up the stairs (or take the elevator at the end of the platform). Then go up another flight of stairs and turn left down Rue de Luxembourg. Take the second street on the left to arrive at Square de Meeûs.

All our trainees start their careers in our London office - we do not operate a separate trainee programme or offer stagiaire opportunities in our Brussels office.

However, as part of their two-year training contract, trainees can apply to be seconded to our Brussels office as part of their six-month seat in our Competition group. Every three months, four trainees from our London office are seconded to Brussels (so generally 12 trainees during the course of each year).
