The FSA's approved persons regime seeks to ensure that only those individuals the FSA considers fit and proper are appointed to carry out certain functions within the UK's financial services industry.

A key part of this process is the introduction of an in-depth interview into the FSA's process for assessing the competence and capability of some candidates seeking approval to carry out Significant Influence Functions (SIFs) at FSA-authorised firms. SIF interviews are becoming more common and more rigorous.

This briefing paper gives prospective candidates for SIF positions some guidance on what to expect and how best to prepare for these interviews.
