    Job Club launch

We have continued to strengthen our relationship with St Luke's Community Centre by introducing a new initiative, the Job Club. Every week, a group of volunteers from the firm will be helping local Islington residents with their job applications. We hope that the project will be a big success and provide the much-needed support to get the long-term unemployed back into work.

    Lawyers in Schools

Lawyers in Schools 2012 programme kicks off

This year's Lawyers in Schools programme, in conjunction with Standard Chartered, is up and running. It is a skills-based volunteering programme run by the Citizenship Foundation which places lawyers in the classroom to help young people develop their awareness and understanding of the law.

Topics our volunteers will lead include 'Learning about the Law', 'Intellectual Property Law', 'Consumer Law' and 'Employment Law'. We have been running this project every year since 2004 and it has always been a success both for our volunteers and the students involved.

    Community Affairs Christmas drinks reception

We were delighted to be joined by over 120 of our volunteers and community partners last night to celebrate the success of our community affairs projects over the past year. Guests enjoyed some festive nibbles, a raffle prize draw and carols (as well as a spirited rendition of Rawhide!) from the 70-strong LSO St Luke's Youth Choir.

Our Senior Partner, Chris Saul, highlighted the broad range and success of our community and pro bono projects and our invaluable community partners. Jonathan Douglas, Director of the National Literacy Trust, also entertained us with his thoughts about successful long-term charity/corporate relationships.

Young Islington carers - interview skills workshop

A group of eight young people from Islington Carers Centre (ICC) took part in an interview skills workshop at our London office today.

After an interview quiz "warm-up", a member of our HR team, Annie Lockyer, gave them an interviewer's perspective on the interview process. Volunteers from across the firm then worked one-to-one with the carers to help them prepare for job interviews, including a mock interview to help boost their confidence. Spike Warwick from ICC said that the carers "were really positive and excited about it afterwards".
