We take our responsibilities to the environment, both locally and globally, very seriously. We have an Environment Committee responsible for advising on ways to control and improve our environmental impact.

We have supported recycling for many years (paper has been sent off for recycling for over 20 years) and any non-food waste that cannot be recycled is incinerated in a combined heat and power station. None of our waste is sent to landfill. Food waste is sent to an anaerobic digester to produce methane, which in turn is used to power electricity generators. The waste produced from this process is used as a fertiliser. The energy used in our offices is provided on a green tariff.

The Committee has a representative on the steering committee of the Islington Climate Change Partnership, a body set up to reduce the carbon footprint of Islington by 15% by 2010. We are committed to achieving this reduction in our own operations. In addition, a partner from the Committee sits on the Leaders Group of the Legal Sector Alliance. The Alliance, which consists of senior legal figures supported by the Law Society and others, has been set up to deliver an agreed strategy to help tackle climate change by developing best practice principles and working methods for the legal sector.
