Whitbread - Acquisition of Coffee Nation by Costa
Slaughter and May is advising Whitbread, and its wholly owned subsidiary Costa Limited ('Costa'), on the acquisition by Costa of Coffee Nation for £59.5 million in cash including the repayment of Coffee Nation's existing debt and its plan to launch a new brand, Costa Express which will target the self-serve coffee bar sector.
Costa is the UK's largest and fastest-growing coffee shop brand with over 1850 stores, 1200 in the UK and a further 650 internationally.
Whitbread PLC is the UK's largest hotel and restaurant group with brands that include Premier Inn, Beefeater, Brewers Fayre, Table Table, Taybarns and Costa Coffee.
The acquisition was announced on 02 March 2011.
