Royal Mail - Postal Services Act

  • 13 June 2011

Slaughter and May is advising Royal Mail on the matters referred to in a recent government announcement concerning Royal Mail. The Government has recently announced the passing of the Postal Services Act which lays down a platform for, amongst other things, reform of the regulatory regime for postal services; assumption by the Government of Royal Mail's pension scheme deficit; and the introduction of private capital to Royal Mail. In addition, the Government has announced its intention to restructure Royal Mail's balance sheet by reducing substantially the amount of debt owed by Royal Mail to the Government. The announcement also refers to the Government seeking State aid approval for the assumption of the pension deficit and balance sheet restructuring. The Firm is advising Royal Mail on all those matters.
