Slaughter and May is advising DONG Energy on its acquisition of Shell Gas Direct. Shell Gas Direct is one of the UK’s largest gas sales and marketing companies.

DONG Energy is one of the leading energy groups in Northern Europe and already has operations in the UK with off shore wind farms, a gas-fired power station and oil and natural gas exploration. The acquisition will provide DONG Energy with an entrance into the UK natural gas sales market.

The acquisition was announced on 18 October 2011. It is expected to be completed in early 2012 and is subject to final approval by the EU competition authorities.
