Standard Chartered - Rights Issue to raise £3.3 billion

Slaughter and May is advising Standard Chartered PLC on a rights issue to raise approximately £3,258 million (net of expenses).

The purpose of the proposed rights issue, which was announced on 13 October 2010, is to enable the Standard Chartered group to seize the growth opportunities presented in the markets in which it operates, whilst being prepared for the higher capital requirements, which the Board believes are likely to be implemented for banks.

J.P. Morgan Cazenove is acting as sponsor. J.P. Morgan Cazenove, Goldman Sachs International and UBS Investment Bank are acting as joint underwriters and, with Standard Chartered Securities (Hong Kong) Limited, are acting a joint bookrunners.
