Nationwide Building Society - Supreme Court gives judgment in bank charges litigation

Slaughter and May advised Nationwide Building Society in its successful appeal to the Supreme Court in the bank charges test case. In a landmark ruling on 25 November, the Supreme Court held unanimously that banks' unarranged overdraft charges are an important part of current account services which the banks provide to their customers and that the amount of those charges is not assessable for fairness.
