Arsenal Football Club - Commercial relationship with Kroenke Sports Enterprises

  • 04 Apr 2008

Slaughter and May advised Arsenal in relation to the strengthening of its commercial relationship with Kroenke Sports Enterprises (KSE), the Arsenal shareholder and leading entertainment group based in the US. On 4 April, 2008 KSE UK acquired a 50% shareholding in Arsenal Broadband Limited (ABL) from ITV plc for a total consideration of £22.7 million, entitling KSE UK to an interest in Arsenal.com, which controls Arsenal’s internet rights. As part of this arrangement, ITV plc will no longer act as the exclusive commercial agent for ABL with regards to the exploitation of media rights. Pursuant to a separate agreement, Arsenal also entered into partnership with the Colorado Rapids, a sports franchise owned by KSE, with the principal aims of building Arsenal’s brand overseas and the launch of an Arsenal football academy in the US.
