Being a successful City lawyer requires more than purely legal knowledge. Your personal training schedule will cover technical legal knowledge, legal skills, and commercial and financial awareness.

Our Training department organises a comprehensive legal and commercial education programme for trainees.

The programme starts with a two-week induction course. The first week will equip you with a legal, administrative and social "survival kit". The second week will focus on bespoke skills such as IT, legal writing, research techniques and resources.

The induction is followed by a variety of courses including:

  • our Professional Skills Course (PSC) - this is a compulsory part of the training contract. It comprises seminars and discussion groups covering legal topics and skills such as negotiation, drafting, advocacy and client care
  • seminars on legal topics - these seminars are led by experienced practitioners. They aim to develop your knowledge and understanding of law and its practical implications
  • business and finance courses - these will help you to understand the commercial rationale underlying the transactions you work on
  • regular firm-wide seminars - these will give you an insight into the latest legal and market developments in the practical context of commercial transactions
  • language courses - to help you maintain or develop your language skills, we run regular classes in many languages. These include French, German, Italian, Spanish, Arabic, Japanese, Mandarin and Russian
