New York secondment story

I’m currently on secondment to Wachtell, Lipton, Rosen & Katz in New York.

Like Slaughter and May, the corporate department here represents some of the biggest names in the business world and works on many high-profile matters. I have been lucky enough to be involved in a number of these and have thoroughly enjoyed the experience. The greater level of responsibility I have here is great preparation for life as a qualified lawyer.

New York is a fantastic place to live. There’s so much to see and do and the central location of my apartment makes enjoying it all so easy. The museums and galleries have some brilliant collections and exploring the different districts of the city has been fascinating. There’s a huge choice of amazing restaurants, great places for a leisurely brunch at the weekend and the nightlife is fantastic! Being here for an extended period also provides a good opportunity to explore the surrounding area; I’ve already enjoyed weekend trips to upstate New York, Washington D.C. and Philadelphia.

My secondment to New York has definitely been an unforgettable experience. So far, it has given me the opportunity both to work at one of the leading US law firms and to live in one of the world’s greatest cities. I wouldn’t hesitate in recommending it to other trainees.
