The application process begins at least two years before the date on which you are expecting to join us. However, undergraduate interviews cannot take place before 1 September in your final year.

If you are a law student you should submit your application in the summer before you enter your final year of study, after you have received your examination results. If you have studied a non-law subject at university, you should apply between October and March during the final year of your degree. Graduates can apply at any time as we interview throughout the year.

Each application is reviewed on its own merits by a team of partners and we endeavour to get back to every applicant as quickly as possible.

We do not conduct written or psychometric tests or hold assessment days. We believe that the qualities we are looking for in trainees are best assessed through an interview. Our approach reflects the kind of business we are and the value we place on personal judgement.

Our interviews are a dialogue between you and two partners, not a one-way grilling. After the interview, a trainee will show you around the office, talk to you about the way we work and answer any questions.

For successful candidates, training contracts begin in either March or September. For those that wish to take time off beforehand, this should be done before you begin the LPC.

Graham White being interviewed

"...it’s an interview with two partners. There are no assessment days, no psychometric tests, no personality tests – and what we’re looking for in the interview is this underlying sharpness, the ability to express ideas crisply, the ability to defend an argument and we make our selection decisions based on that"
