Should you have any questions that are not answered here please feel free to email trainee.recruitment@slaughterandmay.com or telephone us on 020 7600 1200.
- What should be included in the online form and what things should be included in my CV?
Online: Please include a full percentage breakdown of all your undergraduate (and postgraduate, if appropriate) results, as well as your A-level results, or equivalent. CV: Your CV should contain your contact details (name, address, mobile number, email etc.) and your education and academic qualifications. As general background information, your CV should also list any work experience as well as hobbies, interests, positions of responsibility and achievements.
- Do I need to have completed a work experience placement or vacation scheme in order to apply for a training contract?
It is not necessary to have completed a vacation scheme/work experience placement with us, or indeed with any other firm, in order to secure a training contract at Slaughter and May.
- If I have written all my percentage results on the online form do I need to include them again in my CV?
It is entirely up to you.
- If I am unsuccessful after my interview can I apply again?
A candidate who has been interviewed before and has not been offered a training contract is unlikely to be successful on a subsequent application.
- After I have submitted my training contract application, how long will I have to wait before I hear from you?
We will get back to you as soon as possible; usually within ten days to two weeks.
- Once I have had my interview how long will it take to hear the outcome?
We will try to get back to you within a week to ten days.
- If I am already studying either the GDL or LPC at another institution apart from BPP Law School, am I still eligible to apply?
Yes, all applications are welcome.
- If I have already started studying either the GDL or LPC at the time of accepting my training contract offer, will I be required to withdraw from the institution if it is not a named Slaughter and May provider?
If you are part way through the course you may continue your studies at that institution. However, if you have not yet begun your studies, we will ask you to move to BPP Law School.
- I am already qualified as a barrister, will I be considered?
Yes. We are happy to receive applications from anyone who has completed the Bar Vocational Course and meets our general criteria. To enable you to gain a thorough understanding of our practice, we ask you to enter into a two-year quasi-training contract, whether you are a newly-qualified barrister or have already practised at the Bar for up to three years. More experienced barristers should apply for a qualified lawyer position. You will follow the same training as any other trainee, except that you will also have to pass the Qualified Lawyers' Transfer Test ("QLTT"). All barristers are required by the Solicitors Regulation Authority to sit the QLTT before qualifying as solicitors in England and Wales. We would expect you to pass the Test during the two-year period.
- If I am part way through either my GDL or LPC, will I be reimbursed for my fees?
If you have recently started the course then, provided that you are not receiving any other financial support, we will fully reimburse your fees.
- What information do I need to put in my covering letter?
A lengthy covering letter is not required. It should include the necessary information regarding the position you are applying for and any other details which are relevant, eg to explain any gaps in your CV or extenuating circumstances relating to examination results.
